Company Description
North Whatcom Fire and Rescue provides service to 182 square miles of residential, recreational, industrial and agricultural land in Whatcom County. In the summer months the population of 44, 040 grows by 10-12,000 as visitors flock to the Semiahmoo and Birch Bay resort communities. The northern end of the district runs East from Boundary Bay and the City of Blaine in the for 36 miles along the Canadian Border. On the south we border Lake Whatcom and encompass the unincorporated NE corner of the City of Bellingham East of SR 539 and cover northern Whatcom County north of the City of Ferndale.
NWFR is a combination fire department, relying on both career and volunteer firefighters to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. Our career firefighters are all medically trained to the level of EMT-Basic. NWFR staffs sixty full paid personnel of which forty-nine are full paid sworn combat personnel, six support personnel, and seventy-six part-paid and volunteers.
The fire district operates from thirteen fire stations with four full paid engine companies with two of those companies being crossed-staffed to ladder trucks, and one part-paid engine company.
